In this article, Senior QA Engineer Tatjana Kirotar, explains what we are doing to help the world’s largest insurance institutions to manage their cyber exposures, and what life is like at CyberCube.
Why did you choose to work here?
I was looking for a company with modern solutions, technologies and a good cultural fit, therefore I started looking for a role in a fast-growing early-stage enterprise — there are many in Estonia.
Since my previous background was also in the insurance industry, joining CyberCube was a great choice. I knew the industry in general, but I was also fascinated by the cyber insurance element.
I believe the importance of cybersecurity and cyber insurance has grown tremendously over the past few years and will continue to develop. CyberCube is trying to solve issues in this area.
What does CyberCube do?
CyberCube delivers data-driven cyber risk analytics for the insurance industry. Our products can model realistic catastrophe scenarios, help identify portfolio risk accumulations, estimate financial losses from cyber attacks and help understand cybersecurity profiles. All of these functions help insurers and their clients to make better decisions about cyber risk.
What kind of projects are you working on?
I am a Senior QA engineer and scrum master in the Broking Manager product development team. Broking Manager helps insurance buyers make risk transfer or insurance purchasing decisions based on our analytics.
Broking Manager is one of the products that CyberCube has on its platform. In addition to Broking Manager, we have several more products and other supporting services. For us, it means that we are also working closely with other teams to ensure the coordination of release cycles, development of common features and resolve different dependencies.
What problems is CyberCube trying to solve?
Our mission is to deliver the world’s leading cyber risk analytics platform, which is one of the most complex challenges facing the global insurance industry. With the right dataset and the analytics we provide, we are trying to give insurers the ability to offer more effective solutions about cyber risk to their clients.
The explosion of data and IoT devices means everything is affected by cyber risk, therefore making cyber insurance the future of the insurance industry.
How would you describe the culture of CyberCube?
CyberCubers are a really diverse, passionate and open group of people. I honestly think that I have met more friendly people at CyberCube than anywhere else.
Our US colleagues were very supportive when I first met them during a work trip to San Francisco. It was my first month in the company and even though I was a bit intimidated by the new workplace and different country, everyone in the office was so friendly and made me feel welcome. We have not been able to travel and meet face-to-face due to the pandemic, but I still feel that positive energy even through our video calls, chats and virtual social gatherings.
What do you think is important for engineers when they change their job?
I personally think that it’s important to keep learning. Personal growth, the freedom to make architectural decisions and the opportunity to try out new technologies has always been important to engineers.
I also believe that cultural fit is fundamental. You have to like your job, your colleagues and be inspired by the bigger picture to do your job effectively and successfully.
Lately, I have also noticed that more and more engineers want to be a part of the company's success — I was certainly attracted by CyberCube’s Employee stock options. It makes you feel like your work matters and you feel more motivated to go above and beyond for the company, because this way the company's success is also your success.
